A tribute to the king of American litterateurs. My second poem to appear in Illumen, the speculative poetry outlet of Hireath Publishing of ill fame and most fabulous fortune.
My name sadly did not make the cover. I am thinking of changing it to “And Many More,” like the song.
The poem that inspired my more modest effort was the very last thing the immortal beloved Edgar Allan Poe published before he was allegedly murdered by a person or persons unknown. The original was about greed, California gold fever, and the first recorded appearance of zombies on the world stage. Enjoin!
Eldorado
Gaily bedight,
A gallant knight,
In sunshine and in shadow,
Had journeyed long,
Singing a song,
In search of Eldorado.
But he grew old—
This knight so bold—
And o’er his heart a shadow—
Fell as he found
No spot of ground
That looked like Eldorado.
And, as his strength
Failed him at length,
He met a pilgrim shadow—
‘Shadow,’ said he,
‘Where can it be—
This land of Eldorado?’
‘Over the Mountains
Of the Moon,
Down the Valley of the Shadow,
Ride, boldly ride,’
The shade replied,—
‘If you seek for Eldorado!’
Get a move on. Time is wasting. There are transsexual transvestites in Transylvania yet to conquer. Muhaha!
